Tiger Woods Still Leading The Pack [Update] – June 24, 2013

Tiger Woods still leads the pack in updated British Open odds, for some reason

The latest British Open odds are out, and it should surprise no one that Tiger Woods, still the World No. 1, is an 8/1 favorite. The only other player under 20/1 odds is Rory McIlroy at 12/1. Adam Scott and Justin Rose are 20/1, which seems like a decent bet, and Lee Westwood, Luke Donald, Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els come in at 25/1.

Why is Woods still at 8/1 given the fact that he looked completely lost at Merion, has only three top-5 finishes in his last 10 majors, and tied for 28th the last time he was at Muirfield? Well, for starters, Woods is still the No. 1 golfer in the world, albeit it’s a world in which the level of talent is broader than it’s ever been. Also, there’s plenty of stupid money out there, people willing to bet on Woods just because he’s TIGER WOODS. We do not advocate wagering on sporting events in an… Continue reading

Tiger Woods Still Struggling But Back On Top – June 5, 2013

Tiger Woods Is Back On Top Of The World’s Highest-Paid Athletes

Tiger Woods had a dramatic fall from grace after his 2009 Thanksgiving car crash. He lost five sponsors, $50 million in annual income, his place atop the world golf rankings and his marriage. But with six victories over the last 12 months, Woods is back at No. 1 on the course and on Forbes’ annual ranking of the world’s highest-paid athletes—a spot he occupied every year from 2001 until 2012, when boxer Floyd Mayweather ranked first.

Forbes estimates that Woods pulled in $78.1 million over the last year from prize money, endorsements, appearance fees and golf course design work. His resurgence on the links boosted his prize money over the last 12 months to $13.1 million, double his total from the prior year. He now has 78 career wins, only four short of the all-time record held by Sam Snead. Continue reading

JACKSON, MI – Brian Stuard’s second-round play at the Memorial Tournament can be summed up in one word: rough.

The Jackson native carded six bogeys on the day, five of which were a result of finding the rough. With only one birdie on the round, Stuard finished the round with a 5-over 77. His two-day total of 5-over 149 leaves him three strokes back from the projected 2-over cut line. Continue reading

Memorial 2013: Rory McIlroy Knows Why Tiger Woods Dominates Jack Nicklaus’ Tournament

Tiger Wood 2013DUBLIN, Ohio — Rory McIlroy deadpanned the best line of the day. And the most honest.

The world’s No. 2 golfer was asked why Tiger Woods has won five times at the Memorial Tournament.

“The same reason he’s done so well everywhere, I guess,” McIlroy said, prompting loud laughter.

Woods’ dominance isn’t necessarily a laughing matter for the rest of the field at Muirfield Village this week. In 13 trips to Jack Nicklaus’ tournament, Woods has wins in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2009 and last year. He’s cashed more than $5 million, also finishing third twice and fourth once. Continue reading

Rickie Fowler Climbing Back into Golf Spotlight – May 2013

David Feherty says Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler stand out

This is a pretty cool video of a crew following Rickie Fowler around a little bit at the Honda Classic about three months ago. Fowler gives some insight into how he thinks about golf, and you get an inside look at one of golf’s young stars.

The thing that stood out to me, though, is what David Feherty had to say about Fowler when he was talking about the arc of his career.

“I think of all the young players out here, Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler sort of stand out to me. They’re the two I think are going to have spectacular futures,” said Feherty. Continue reading

[Breaking News] Tiger Woods Tournament Updates – April 24, 2013

Tiger Woods to defend AT&T title at Congressional

It isn’t terribly surprising, given that he’s the genial host of the event and he’s healthy this year, but Tiger Woods has confirmed that he’ll play in the AT&T National at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md.

Woods, who won the tournament last year, announced the news last week on his website. This year’s tournament will be held June 27-30.

“I’m really looking forward to defending my title at the AT&T National,” Woods, presently ranked No. 1 in the world, said on his website. “The Washington, D.C., community has been so supportive of the tournament, and I’m excited to play Congressional Country Club.” Continue reading
